a replicar aquel éxito, maye siguió escribiendo, colaborando y
bossa nova y distintas influencias latinas contemporáneas, mientras

No

LISTEN TO "MÚSICA PARA
ABRIR EL CIELO" HERE
Inspiration comes in the most unexpected forms. For maye, it arrived
while buying a yoga mat at a small market in Downtown Los Angeles. The
woman selling it began telling her things about herself with uncanny
accuracy and, somewhere in that unlikely conversation, left her with a
phrase she couldn't shake: her purpose was to "open the sky for people."
Years later, those words would become the title of her debut album,
Música Para Abrir el Cielo, and an unexpected way of describing the
artistic journey that brought her to this moment.
"Maye blends poetic introspection with genre-blurring soundscapes,
creating music that feels both intimate and expansive."
— BMI
Born in Caracas, raised in Miami and now based in Los Angeles, maye grew
up surrounded by music and between cultures, languages and influences
that gradually shaped her identity as an alternative artist with a
musical language entirely her own. The world first encountered that
voice on a larger scale with "Tú," the intimate 2019 song that surpassed
100 million streams and landed on Barack Obama's summer of 2020
playlist. But rather than rush to recreate that breakthrough, maye kept
writing, collaborating and allowing her artistry to evolve on its own
timeline.
"Her steps through Latin music have not been meteoric, but they have
been steady and consistent."
— Rolling Stone en Español
Translated from Spanish
When Música Para Abrir el Cielo finally arrived, it captured the artist
maye had become along the way. Across 11 songs, she moves naturally
between Spanish and English, expanding her alternative sound through
dream pop, bolero, bossa nova and contemporary Latin influences while
exploring love, heartbreak, memory, identity and the process of
returning to oneself. She wrote nearly the entire project and stepped
further into its creation as a co-producer, while continuing to expand
her voice as a songwriter beyond her own catalog.
"She's expanding herself until she soars, becoming more brutally honest
without sacrificing her tenderness."
— SPIN
Now, Música Para Abrir el Cielo has led maye to another first: her first
Latin GRAMMY® nomination as an artist. The recognition arrives years
after the song that first introduced her to millions and at a moment
when the picture of who she is — artist, songwriter and producer — feels
more complete than ever. She isn't "new" because she appeared overnight;
her story has been unfolding quietly and deliberately all along. Years
after a stranger told maye that her purpose was to open the sky for
others, those words feel almost prophetic: she created enough space to
become fully herself and, through her music, invites others into that
space with her.
