WAD INDUSTRY INTELLIGENCE: 5 SHIFTS RESHAPING MUSIC MARKETING
The music industry is evolving faster than ever. From AI-driven changes
in streaming to new music discovery strategies and shifting audience
behaviors, the rules of music marketing are being rewritten.
At WAD360, we're keeping a close eye on the developments shaping the
business — and what they mean for artists, labels and the people behind
them.
Here are five industry signals worth your attention.
01 / SPOTIFY IS DRAWING A LINE ON AI-GENERATED MUSIC
On October 20, Spotify revealed that it had excluded more than 50
million AI-generated slop and spam tracks from recommendations in 2026,
in addition to removing over 75 million spam tracks from the platform
for serious or repeated policy violations.
The platform is also increasing transparency around AI-generated artist
identities, introducing AI credits and prioritizing identifiable human
artists in its discovery ecosystem.
WHY IT MATTERS:
As AI makes music production and distribution increasingly accessible,
the challenge is no longer simply releasing music. It's standing out in
an oversaturated market.
Artist identity, original storytelling and genuine audience engagement
could become even more valuable in the competition for listeners'
attention.

02 / MUSIC REVIEWERS ARE BECOMING KEY PLAYERS IN MUSIC DISCOVERY
On October 8, Spotify introduced Shapers in Colombia, a new initiative
recognizing the music reviewers, cultural commentators, DJs and digital
creators who influence how audiences discover music.
The initiative highlights a broader shift: music discovery is not only
driven by algorithms, advertising and traditional influencers, but also
by trusted voices within specific musical communities.
WHY IT MATTERS:
A creator with millions of followers can generate exposure. But a music
reviewer with a smaller, highly engaged audience can introduce a track
to listeners who are genuinely interested in discovering new music.
For labels and artist teams, this opens new possibilities for more
targeted and culturally relevant campaigns.
WAD HOT TAKE: We're seeing the impact firsthand.
Across our own campaigns, we've observed stronger conversion performance
when targeted music reviewer activations are integrated into the
marketing strategy, compared with campaigns without this component.
Our experience suggests that audiences respond differently when music is
actively recommended by someone they trust, rather than simply featured
as background audio.
At WAD360, we're developing music reviewer campaigns built around genre
relevance, audience targeting and measurable campaign objectives.
Because reaching people is one thing. Making them listen is another.

03 / SPANISH-LANGUAGE MUSIC IS EXPANDING ITS SHARE OF THE U.S. MARKET
Nearly 1 in 10 U.S. music streams is now in Spanish.
According to Luminate's 2026 Midyear Report, Spanish-language music
accounted for 9.4% of all U.S. on-demand audio and video streams during
the first half of 2026.
Meanwhile, English-language consumption fell to 87.1%, reflecting a
progressively more diverse American music market.
WHY IT MATTERS
Spanish-language music is no longer limited to traditional Latin
audiences.
For artists and labels, international expansion increasingly depends on
understanding cultural communities, local consumption patterns and the
right market-entry strategies.
WAD HOT TAKE: Global expansion isn't just about crossing borders. It's
about connecting markets.
With our industry network and experience across the U.S., Latin America,
Spain and Europe, WAD360 connects artists, labels and opportunities
across territories.
From introducing international artists to new audiences to coordinating
cross-market promotional strategies, we believe successful expansion
requires more than translating a campaign.
It requires understanding how music travels between cultures.

04 / SUPERFANS ARE CHANGING THE ECONOMICS OF MUSIC
20% of U.S. music listeners are classified as superfans.
According to Luminate, one in five U.S. music listeners engages with
artists and music in five or more different ways.
Even more interesting: 11% of listeners qualify as both purchase-based
and engagement-based superfans.
These are audiences who go beyond streaming, participating in fan
communities, purchasing merchandise, attending events and actively
supporting artists.
WHY IT MATTERS
For years, marketing success has been measured heavily through streams,
views and monthly listeners.
But audience size alone doesn't tell the whole story.
An artist with a smaller but highly engaged fanbase may have
opportunities to generate meaningful revenue through live experiences,
merchandise and direct-to-fan initiatives.
The next challenge for music marketers isn't just growing an audience.
It's building one that stays.
WAD HOT TAKE: You don't build a superfan with a single campaign
touchpoint. You build one through a connected experience.
At WAD360, turning listeners into superfans is the philosophy behind our
360° marketing approach.
Imagine someone scrolling through TikTok and seeing their favorite
creator dancing to a new track.
A few days later, a music reviewer they trust recommends that same
artist.
Then they hear the song playing at their gym or in a clothing store.
Later that week, it comes on the radio. They come across the artist
again on social media.
And then, a festival they're planning to attend announces that very
artist as part of its lineup.
Suddenly, the artist isn't just another name in their feed. They're
becoming part of their everyday life.
Our goal is to turn repeated exposure into recognition, recognition into
curiosity, and curiosity into genuine fandom.
Because the ultimate objective isn't just to make people hear a song,
it's to make them care about the artist behind it.

05 / PLAYLISTING IS EVOLVING FROM DISCOVERY TO LONG-TERM GROWTH
Spotify is investing in what happens after the first listen.
In September, Spotify introduced Fresh Finds Forward, an initiative
designed to support approximately 10,000 emerging independent artists
annually.
According to Spotify, Fresh Finds playlists have generated more than 128
million new artist discoveries since 2024.
The new initiative goes beyond traditional playlist exposure, offering
resources, industry connections and additional opportunities for artists
to build sustainable careers.
WHY IT MATTERS
Playlist placement can provide an important boost in visibility. But
getting discovered is only the beginning.
The real challenge is converting temporary exposure into repeat
listening, saves, followers and long-term audience growth.
WAD HOT TAKE: A playlist placement should be part of the strategy, not
the entire strategy.
At WAD360, we work on playlisting strategies as part of broader music
marketing campaigns, combining music discovery with targeted promotion
and audience development.
The objective is making sure the discovery has somewhere to go.

THE BIGGER PICTURE
The industry is moving toward a world where authenticity, cultural
relevance, audience relationships and smarter discovery strategies
matter more than exposure alone.
At WAD360, we believe understanding these shifts is essential to
creating more effective music marketing campaigns and building long-term
artist careers.
