Rauw Alejandro y Proyecto PaMaRa llevan
arte, fe y sueños a Valley State Prison
El pasado 12 de abril, Valley State Prison en Fresno, California, fue
sede de una jornada significativa liderada por la Fundación Proyecto
PaMaRa y su miembro fundador, el artista internacional Rauw Alejandro.
Bajo el nombre “PaMaRa x VSP”, el evento reunió a más de 100 jóvenes
privados de libertad en una experiencia diseñada para abrir espacios de
diálogo, expresión y bienestar emocional.
Esta experiencia se realizó en colaboración con un aliado cercano de
Rauw y de Proyecto PaMaRa, Scott Budnick, quien ha trabajado con jóvenes
dentro de Valley State Prison por más de 20 años. Proyecto PaMaRa se
unió a su compañía de cine y televisión, 1Community, así como a la
organización sin fines de lucro que él fundó, The Anti-Recidivism
Coalition (ARC), la cual dirige semanalmente programas de desarrollo
personal dentro del penal.
Fiel a su lema “Creando Sueños, Inspirando Vidas, Acompañando Caminos”,
Proyecto PaMaRa integró tres de sus cinco pilares fundamentales —arte,
deportes y espiritualidad—, junto con la psicoeducación y la conexión
con el medio ambiente, en una jornada profundamente humana, pensada para
reavivar la esperanza y recordar que cada persona merece la oportunidad
de reconstruir su camino.
Valley State Prison es una de las instituciones correccionales más
grandes de California y una de las pocas que promueven activamente la
mentoría, el desarrollo emocional y el arte entre su población joven.
Esta fue la primera colaboración de este tipo entre un artista del
calibre de Rauw Alejandro y una fundación centrada en la transformación
social, abriendo nuevas posibilidades de impacto para futuras
iniciativas en contextos similares.
La agenda del evento incluyó dinámicas grupales sobre sueños y
propósito, un partido de fútbol entre los internos, el equipo de Rauw y
jugadores del club local Central Valley Fuego FC, acompañado de una
barbacoa comunitaria, un espacio de oración y agradecimiento, y la
creación de un Muro de Sueños, donde los jóvenes escribieron sus
aspiraciones y reflexiones como legado visual del encuentro.
“Me fui con más de lo que traje. Escuchar a los muchachos, verlos tan
presentes… me recordó que, al final, todos buscamos lo mismo: dar y
recibir amor, ser escuchados, y sentir que todavía tenemos algo que
aportar” , comenta Rauw Alejandro.
“Estoy orgullosa de lo que sucedió. Vivimos el evangelio en carne
propia. Fuimos testigos del amor de Dios en un espacio donde todos somos
más iguales de lo que pensamos,” agregó Paola Ocasio, directora y
fundadora de la organización.
En total, el evento impactó a 158 personas. Un grupo de 25 jóvenes
participó en un círculo de diálogo donde compartieron sus historias de
vida antes de pasar al Muro de Sueños. Los testimonios de los
participantes reflejan el impacto vivido:
“Me recordó a casa, a la familia. Fue abrumador. Me hizo sentir humano
otra vez”.
“Gracias por dejarme ser parte del equipo. Hoy fue increíble”.
“Mucho amor para Rauw, su familia y esta fundación. Fue el mejor día de
todos”.
“No puedo pagar lo que hicieron por mí hoy, pero siempre trataré de
devolverlo”.
El evento contó con el apoyo de Live Action Foundation, el equipo de Los
Sensei, mentores del penal, voluntarios y aliados comprometidos con
transformar vidas desde adentro hacia afuera.
La Fundación Proyecto PaMaRa reafirma así su compromiso con poblaciones
vulnerables, ampliando su misión a espacios donde el arte, la
espiritualidad y la empatía abren caminos de redención. Como reflejo de
este compromiso, PaMaRa recibió un reconocimiento oficial del Senado del
Estado de California por su labor en favor del empoderamiento juvenil,
la promoción del bienestar emocional y su impacto positivo dentro de
entornos carcelarios. Este es solo el inicio de una serie de encuentros
que buscan encender sueños en los lugares más inesperados.

Rauw Alejandro and Proyecto PaMaRa Bring Art, Faith, and Hope to Valley
State Prison
On April 12, Valley State Prison in Fresno, California, hosted a
meaningful day led by the Proyecto PaMaRa Foundation and its founding
member, international artist Rauw Alejandro. Under the title “PaMaRa x
VSP”, the event brought together over 100 incarcerated youth for an
experience designed to open space for dialogue, expression, and
emotional well-being.
This experience was carried out in collaboration with friend of Rauw
Alejandro and Proyecto PaMaRa, Scott Budnick, who has been working with
youth inside Valley State Prison for over 20 years. Proyecto PaMaRa
partnered with Budnick’s film and television company 1Community, as well
as with The Anti-Recidivism Coalition (ARC), the nonprofit organization
Budnick founded, that runs self-help programs inside Valley State Prison
weekly.
Staying true to its motto, “Creating Dreams, Inspiring Lives, Walking
Together,” Proyecto PaMaRa brought together three of its five core
pillars —art, sports, and spirituality—, which are part of its five core
pillars along with psychoeducation and connection with the environment,
in a deeply human experience designed to reignite hope and remind each
person that they deserve the chance to rebuild their path.
Valley State Prison is one of the largest correctional facilities in
California and one of the few actively supporting mentoring, emotional
development, and the arts among its young population. This was the first
collaboration of its kind between an artist of Rauw Alejandro’s caliber
and a foundation focused on social transformation, opening the door to
future initiatives with lasting impact.
The event’s agenda included group discussions around dreams and purpose,
a soccer match between inmates, Rauw’s team, and players from local club
Central Valley Fuego FC, a spiritual session, and the creation of a
Dream Wall, where participants wrote down their hopes and reflections as
a visual legacy of the encounter.

present they were… reminded me that in the end, we’re all looking for
the same things: to give and receive love, to be heard, and to feel like
we still have something to offer.”

“I’m proud of what we experienced. We lived the gospel in action. We
witnessed God’s love in a space where we realized we are all more alike
than we think,” said Paola Ocasio, director and founder of the
organization.
Participant testimonies reflected the emotional depth of the day:
“It reminded me of home, of family. It was overwhelming in the best way.
It made me feel human again.”
“Thank you for letting me be part of the team. Today was incredible.”
“Much love to Rauw, his family, and this foundation. It was the best day
ever.”
“I can’t repay what you did for me today, but I’ll always try to give it
back.”
The event was supported by Live Action Foundation, the Los Sensei team,
mentors from the prison, volunteers, and partners committed to changing
lives from the inside out.
The Proyecto PaMaRa Foundation reaffirms its commitment to vulnerable
populations, expanding its mission to spaces where art, spirituality,
and empathy open paths to redemption. In recognition of its impact,
Proyecto PaMaRa received an official certificate from the California
State Senate for its commitment to youth empowerment and emotional
well-being in carceral settings. This is only the beginning of a series
of encounters designed to spark hope in the most unexpected places.
